Cold Hands

A 4 track electropop ep (20m 14s) — released April 9th 2007 on Jack To Phono

Two year’s since his successful debut album and 3 sold-out 12’s on Brighton’s hugely successful Tru Thoughts label, Flevans returns with two unmistakeable cuts from his anticipated new album, ‘Unfabulous’. These releases see Flevans coming out of the closet with London’s Jack To Phono label, after the 2 previous secretive Mooch 7"s that he also produced. The two tracks here showcase Flevans’ much improved production and are a real flavour of things to come â€" ‘Cold Hands’ starts out shuffling and moody before breaking into a dancefloor shaking, electro bass driven, party-starting monster! AA side, ’12 Apostles’ is another Flevans classic in the making; funky breaks, horns and guitars combine to make this a proper funk workout. The flipside sees Australia’s rising star, Rephrase and the co-founder of Brighton’s superb Cookshop label, Lost Idol providing 2 superb remixes. First up is Rephrase’s re-work of ‘The Greeting Song’ â€" keeping the hip-hop feel of the original whilst adding his own distinct production values, Rephrase rolls up his sleeves and throws down another floor-mover. Lost Idol takes ‘Cold Hands’ into uncharted territory, bringing the tempo down and turning the tune into something altogether more beautiful…

Flevans and friends entice you with this four tracker of funk tinged beats and breaks. Standing head and shoulders is the man himself on 'Cold Hands¹, a track that builds from a slo-mo disco beginning into a chugging mid tempo jazz breaks affair. No atom splitting, but a choice groove with an eye on subtle arrangement changes. - Found Sounds DJ Magazine

After somewhat of a hiatus, the ex-Tru Thoughts beatfiddler makes a welcome return on the ever-funky Jack To Phono label. Having spent the last year or so DJing and remixing other artists, you can hear has crafted his trade in this selection of dancefloor wobblers from his forthcoming album. Remixes come courtesy of fellow Brightonian Lost Idol (upping the head nod factor) and Australia’s Rephrase, who adds his own brand of wobblyness to “Greeting Song”. Lovely stuff! - Shepdog I-DJ
